Trehel Corporation continues work on the new one-acre park that will be built on a city-owned parcel at the site of the old Belk Department store on East Whitner Street. The downtown park will feature an outdoor amphitheater and a wall of cascading water and fountains.
The project scope includes demolition of existing structures, grading, storm drainage, decorative retaining walls and water fountains, an amphitheater, outdoor pavilion and existing building renovations. RSCT architecture + design of Clemson is providing architectural services.
According to Bryan Yoder, Trehel Corporation’s Project Manager, the project is on schedule for completion in the spring of 2013. Just before the new year, the steel footings were installed in the open-air pavilion, two buildings had been reroofed, and a large retaining wall that serves as one of the borders for the amphitheater was under construction.
